You can bring home the latest thriller from director Martin Scorsese on both DVD and Blu-ray this June. Shutter Island will be released on DVD and Blu-ray on June 8. We don’t have any pricing details, but it seems the standard DVD will contain no special features and you can look at the cover art for both releases below. The film stars Leonardo DiCaprio, Mark Ruffalo, Ben Kingsley, Max von Sydow, Michelle Williams, Emily Mortimer, Patricia Clarkson and Jackie Earle Haley.

The critics have been giving Shutter Island some mixed reviews. However, I saw it this weekend and I thought it was great! There were some surprising twists and turns, and I loved watching Michelle act opposite Leonardo DiCaprio. They are a top notch acting team. Here is a sample of what the critics had to say:

His style is like visual frosting laid on top of a maze, as the film invites us to spend a plodding two hours and 18 minutes figuring out the method to its madness. To no one’s surprise Shutter Island, director Martin Scorsese and Leonardo DiCaprio’s latest collaboration, claimed the number one spot on the domestic box office chart this weekend. What may have been a bit of a surprise, however, was just how well the thriller actually did.

With the bad buzz that surrounded Shutter Island after the thriller was pulled off of its original October 8th release date, many wondered if Scorsese’s latest would end up as a stain upon the master’s reputation. The critical response to Shutter Island has indeed been mixed, although audiences haven’t seemed to notice. In fact, with an estimated debut weekend of $40.2 million from 2,991 theatres, Shutter Island has given Scorsese and DiCaprio their highest opening ever – either separately or as a team.

Shutter Island premiered last night at the Ziegfeld Theatre in New York, and I have posted lots of pics for you! Michelle arrived, looking lovely in a cream colored dress by Lanvin, and stopped to sign autographs for fans. Later, she attended the after party at Rouge Tomate and posed for photos with co-star Mark Ruffalo, his wife, Sunrise, and co-star Emily Mortimer.

Shutter Island opens in wide release tomorrow.
