Transcripts thanks to Devoted 2 DC
Letterman: Our first guest is one of the stars of the "Dawson's Creek"
program, she's also in a new film entitled "Me Without You" it opens July
5th in selected cities, just pray to god your city has been selected
::audience laughs::
Ladies and Gentlemen here is the lovely Michelle Williams
::audience applauds as Michelle walks onto the stage in black slacks
and a black low cut sleevless blouse::
Letterman: You were on the show like three years ago or somethin' right
Michelle: Yeah, it's been a little while
Letterman: Yeah, how long have you been on the "Dawson's Creek" program
Michelle: Five Years
Letterman: Five Years? And you started when , let me guess here, like
when you were 15 or 16?
Michelle: Yes 16
Letterman: Is that right? So you are now, well, you can figure it out, your now?
Michelle: 21
Letterman: 21 years old? Well, well that's great because you when from
like adolescence to young adulthood all on all on the...
Michelle: All on television
Letterman: Yeah and that's interesting kinda, don't you think?
Michelle: And sorta unfortunate, because I mean I am not sure if you want to
capture 16 forever but I have
Letterman: Yeah Oh oh so you are playing 16 on the show? That's not right
Michelle: No no no, but when I was 16 I was on the show, but now I have
aged as my character has aged
Letterman: So are you the same age on the program as you are in real life?
Michelle: No I am a little bit older in real life
Letterman: You're a little older in real life When will, when will
this ever catch up?
::audience laughs::
Michelle: Never, there will be a constant discreptancy
Letterman: So tell us what is going on on Dawson's Creek
Michelle: What is going on? I think that when it last left off um Dawson and I had just slept
together, I had taken his virginity
::audience applauds:
Letterman: Wow There ya go And what is that like as an actor? And that is the
storyline, is that something you look forward to is it something you are
like what are we gonna do here? I mean its all suggested, you don't
really see anything graphically depicted would you?
Michelle: No of course not
Letterman: No I wouldn't think so
Michelle: And it was on television so it was on satin sheets and it
was lit by candles
Letterman: Very nice
Michelle: Yeah
Letterman: So you and Dawson are now together? Is that right?
Michelle: We were for a short period but then we had to break up because
I am not his true love
Letterman: You're not his true love?
Michelle: No
Letterman: Well what was this thing with the satin sheets?
Michelle: Sex ::She laughs::
::audience laughs::
Oh that was just sex? Oh yeah sex, that's all that was. Yikes 'a hooty.
Uh and how much longer will you continue on the....uh how old is Dawson
on the show versus his age in real life?
Michelle: hmm Im not quite sure how old James Van Der Beek is but I think we are
all playing about 18 right now
Letterman: I see, and how long will you continue with the program?
Michelle: Think its one more year. We all had 6 and a half year contracts and
at the end of this next year that will fulfill the obligation and I haven't heard any
talk of it picking up.
Letterman: and are you apprehensive? Do you have trepdations about leaving? Do
you want to leave? Are you excited? Are you here to move on?
Michelle: Um I think its a mixture of both for everybody Um I have grown up in Wilmington
really and those people have become like family so um it will be strange
but um I am excited to see how my life and everbodys lives opens up
after this commitment is fulfilled
Letterman: And how is the Creek There's been a drought up here in the Northeast
has is affected the creek? Is it alright?
::audience laughs::
Michelle: No its flowing just fine.
Letterman: Well that's good. Well, when you realized that you wanted to act for
the first time, what was your life doing then. That's clumsy
way to express it, but you know, were you like just lie a little kid
did it come to you later? How did that happen?
Michelle: Oh I was pretty young, I remember going to see my first play when I was like
8 or 9.
Letterman: what did you go see?
Michelle: it was tom sawyer and it was like a children's production. Um but I just remember
clinging onto the edge of my seat very excited and its all that I
have really been doing ever since. I 've never done anything
else
Letterman: Yeah so you knew immediately, that's great. Now have you ever met anybody
in acting who never really quite knew like you knew
Michelle: Are you referring to something particular ::she giggles::
::audience laughs::
Letterman: No no but you know what I'm saying, I mean I have never met many people
in my life who one day there was a moment when there were like "yes this
is what I am going to find fulfilling and rewarding and I will pursue
this the rest of my life, you don't find many people for whom that has happened
I am just saying that are there people in acting who are like "yeah well
I guess this is what I am doing now, but I don't know"
Michelle: I think so, but I think I was...I mean I think it's all right not to know
what you want to do at any point of your life, but I guess I've been
lucky that its just all I've ever wanted to do.
Letterman: That was a pathetic question wasn't it?
::audience laughs::
Michelle: It was a little hard to answer ::she laughs:: I wasn't sure
what to do with it I'm sorry
Letterman: Yeah I'm sorry, I feel I may have the Lyme disease
::audience is laughing and appluading::
Letterman: And where do you live now? See when you are shooting the
Dawson's Creek show you are down there in Wilmington is it? Is that where it
is full time?
Michelle: Yeah its there 9 months a year. And New York has become my adult
home.
Letterman: Oh Yeah. That must be great fun for ya huh?
Michelle: It is, it's an amazing city, isn't it?
Letterman: Yeah
::audience applauds::
Letterman: What do you do in New York when you're here?
Michelle: What do I do? Well I am doing a play right now. So I am working at night
Then during the day I think I take advantage of the city
the way everyone does. Taking the subways and walking around
Letterman: Go to museums and that kind of thing?
Michelle: Go to museums, yeah, do you?
Letterman: Well no, I am here pretty much tied up with the show all day
::audience laughs::
Michelle: Aww
Letterman: I have been museums I have been to many museums here in the city
years and years ago when I had free time to go to museums but now I don't
and the minute I get fired I will be going back to museums
::audience and Michelle laugh::
Letterman: There very minute And you are a big Mets fan I guess huh?
Michelle: I have just become a Mets fan, two guys that I am doing this play with,
Brian and Eddie, are Mets fan, and uh I have become annoyanted (?). I have the
hat, it's not the old school hat, but the player uniform hats now, and we've
gone to a couple games, we went to the Subway Series, which was very
exciting, it's interesting to be a part of something like that, and now
you have an infinity with anyone that walks down the street wearing a Mets hat,
and you immediately don't like Yankees fans
::audience laughs::
Michelle: But they pursuaded me to be a Mets fan because they say its like the
love of a good woman. Because like the Mets lose so often and they break
your heart but you keep you staying and staying and staying when
you should've left.
::audience laughs::
Letterman: Well that's true. Well that's why a lot of baseball fans just
hand on for generations
Michelle: Yeah
Letterman: But what happened to the Mets last night? Didn't they have some
heart-breaking defeat? In the late inning. Some crushing homerun that
sent them back to the clubhouse
Michelle: I don't know I was working Maybe I am not that big of a fan.
::audience laughs::
Letterman: Guess not. What's the matter with me? Tell us about the film? Now you
had to use an English accent for the film. That's gotta be hard, isn't it?
Michelle: I did, I did something that could've borderlined on being obnoxious, but I stayed
in the accent the entire time that I was in London, but I didn't have
friends and family around so it wasn't....
Letterman: So what is the accent? Let me hear it?
Michelle: Oh don't do it to me ::she laughs::
Letterman: Did you have someone teach you the accent or did you just hear it
and learn it from being there?
Michelle: No i had someone who stayed with me the whole time, and we did
like vocal warm ups in the morning and a little silly something at night
Letterman: Well say something in British
Michelle: Wanka
::audience laughs::
Letterman: Wanker? Well, well, certainly a lovely way to begin ::he laughs::
Did you find that...Because I would guess, I don't know this because
I am not a linguist, but I would guess that it requires different facial
muscles to talk to with an accent. Did you find at the end of the day
your face would get tired? What's the matter with me? ::he laughs::
::audience and Michelle laugh::
Letterman: What the hell is wrong with me? But the film...
Michelle: No it's a perfectly valid question
Letterman: Oh is it really? Well that would be the first one tonight.
::everyone laughs::
Letterman: Let's look at the clip.
Michelle: All right, lets
Letterman: Its about...it's a coming of age story as they say. Young girls
in Great Britain
Michelle: Yeah, and it carries the friendship through from when they're adolescence
to when they are in their late 20's And it's just the story of...
It's a really complex look at female friendships and how they can be
obsessive and manipuative as well as um you know a lot of fun. And this
is in our earlier stages
Letterman: Is it like that Ya-Ya sisterhood thing?
::audience laughs::
Michelle: I haven't seen that
::audience and Letterman laugh::
Letterman: All right here we go, the name of the movie of course is "Me without you"
>
